Overnight closures on the 95 and 395 Express Lanes this Summer/Fall

The milling and paving activities on the 95/395 Express Lanes from near Franconia-Springfield Parkway to near Edsall Road are concluding; that segment of the Express Lanes is expected to be fully open to traffic overnight beginning the evening of Thursday, August 7, 2025. 

The project will continue further south, with milling and paving activities scheduled to begin the evening of Thursday August 7, from MM 170 to MM 158 on the 95 Express Lanes:

Southbound traffic will be diverted to the general-purpose lanes via the flyover ramp near Backlick Road; travelers can re-enter the Express Lanes via the slip ramp near Dale Boulevard. Following reversal, northbound traffic will be diverted off the Express Lanes to the general-purpose lanes via the slip ramp near Prince William Parkway; travelers can re-enter the Express Lanes via the slip ramp north of Franconia-Springfield Parkway. 

In addition to the ongoing 95 Express Lanes closures outlined above, the following ramps will be closed from 8 p.m. to 4 a.m. the week of August 11 to accommodate milling and paving:

  • Franconia-Springfield Parkway/Route 289 to 95 Express Lanes

Tuesday, August 12, 2025:

  • I-95 near Franconia-Springfield Pkwy/Route 289 to 95 Express Lanes
  • I-95 near Old Keene Mill Road/Route 644 to 95 Express Lanes

Wednesday, August 13, 2025:

  • 95 Express Lanes to Fairfax County Parkway/Route 286
  • I-95 near Route 1 to 95 Express Lanes

Thursday, August 14, 2025:

  • 95 Express Lanes to Route 1
  • Route 1 to 95 Express Lanes
  • 95 Express Lanes to I-95 near Gordon Boulevard/Route 123

All customers, especially motorcyclists, are encouraged to use extra caution when traveling in the area and transitioning between paved and unpaved lanes.
