Express Lanes Fall 2015 Community Grant Program Recipients Announced

On November 20, 2015, Christine Manley, with the Express Lanes Grant Program, presented New Hope Housing’s Case Manager, Melissa Davis, and Executive Director, Pamela L. Michell, with the community grant program check for their Veterans Housing Program.

Since 2008, Transurban has been active in the local community through the Express Lanes Community Grant Program, which supports organizations that sustain, enhance and protect the local environment and broader Northern Virginia community.  For the fall 2015 quarter, we received numerous applications and are excited to announce that Fairfax County Park Foundation, Herndon Village Network and New Hope Housing will each receive a grant through the Express Lanes Community Grant Program.

Fairfax County Park Foundation

Established in 2000, the Fairfax County Park Foundation (FCPF) inspires philanthropy, passion for the parks, and helps to bridge the gap between identified needs and available public funds for Fairfax County parks and open space.  To increase attendance at Hidden Pond Nature Center – tucked away in Springfield, Virginia – FCPF will be using the funds provided by the Express Lanes Grant Program to obtain a Virginia Department of Transportation Tourist Destination sign.  The sign will help direct travelers and increase visitors to Hidden Pond so that they can experience the acres of quiet trails, splashing streams, a tranquil pond and the informative Nature Center.

Herndon Village Network

Committed to coordinating and providing a range of services to seniors 55 years and older in Herndon, Virginia, Herndon Village Network (HVN) implemented the NV Rides program in April 2015.  The NV Rides program is a program that supports Herndon community groups to provide transportation for local senior citizens.  Since their launch, HVN has driven over 200 miles transporting members to and from various medical appointments, shopping outings and social engagements.  HVN will be using the funds provided by the Express Lanes Grant Program to further support the program and create marketing materials to increase their impact in the Herndon area.

New Hope Housing

The mission of New Hope Housing is to end homelessness in Northern Virginia by providing shelter, housing, and the tools to build a better life for homeless men, women and families.  To adhere to their commitment to the homeless community, New Hope Housing created a Veterans Housing Program geared towards single, homeless veterans, which will provide them with stability, employment and educational resources and help them transition to their own housing.  The funds provided by the Express Lanes Grant Program will be used to help offset housing expenses, such as utilities, insurance and direct client assistance.
