It’s been nearly five years since the greater D.C. area’s first tolled express lanes, the 495 Express Lanes, opened to traffic. To mark the upcoming anniversary, 1,700 D.C. area drivers were surveyed earlier this summer about the 495 and 95 Express Lanes. The research findings from the largest survey since fall 2015 were combined with recent information on toll prices and how much customers spend to travel the Lanes.
The results? Most customers spend more on a single tank of gas than they do in tolls on the Express Lanes throughout an entire month, nearly 8 in 10 drivers believe the Express Lanes benefit the area and overall satisfaction increases the more a customer uses the Express Lanes.
